Q & A:

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST?

I do not have ONE favorite artist because so many are super talented! A few of my favorite contemporary artists are Christina Cordova and Thaddeus Erdal. In the modern genre of art, I admire the works of Lynn Chadwick and Salvatore Dali.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR PEACE JACKETS?

Six years ago I purchased my first army jacket. It was too large, so I altered it and added embroidery and patches. After 20 people had asked me to make a jacket for them, I began to make “Peace Jackets.” The name has a strong meaning. Wars are occurring all over this beautiful planet. The jackets are a reminder that we need to seek harmony among us all, “piece by peace.”

WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELAX?

I watch movies with my family, visit my friends, read books, eat chocolate and drink tea.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO VISIT?

I travel a lot, so I have several favorite spots. North of Italy between Laggo Maggiore and Lake Como are wonderful. The South of France, Stockholm, and Hamburg are on my list and Alaska is a dream!

DR. LAURI GIVENS
M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Superstar medical doctor Lauri Givens was inspired to enter the medical field by a couple that attended her church when she was a young girl. The wife was a pediatrician, and the husband was a dentist. Both provided a glimpse into their professions. Her grandmother who was a labor and delivery attendant influenced her final decision to go into OBGYN. Her holistic approach to medicine benefits not only the bodies of her patients but their spirits as well. She attended Spelman College and ECU Medical School. Currently, she practices at Statesville Obstetrics Gynecology. Visit: StatesvilleOBGYN.com.

Q & A:

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS?

First and foremost are my three amazing children! They are simply wonderful. Living my dream of being a doctor and providing clients with the health care that they deserve are at the top of my list also.

WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU IN YOUR PROFESSION?

My reputation is crucial. I stay on the cutting edge of my ongoing education so that I can provide patients with excellent care. I make sure that I forge relationships with my patients and keep in touch with them after treatment.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO AN ASPIRING DOCTOR?

“To whom much is given, much is expected.” Be prepared to sacrifice to care for others. I miss a lot of things such as sleep and seeing my children’s activities. Make sure that you believe in yourself and never give up.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?

I am a foodie! I love to cook and make everything from scratch. I even bake our bread. I experiment with all types of cuisines such as Mexican and Chinese. Balance is important, so I am also an exercise nut.
